The sketchbook project is a large library of sketchbooks done by various artists and is housed in New York. In 2015 I received a blank sketchbook and over the course of a year I filled it with drawings based on places I had visited in Switzerland and France.
The project
The project explores the relationship between physical spaces and the emotional/contemplative states experienced within them. From the feeling of anonymity when immersed in a dense urban area, to being confronted by nature in a vast open space. I think that each person will experience these environments in a different way, and this sketchbook is simply a document of my personal experience in my environment at that time.
These drawings are a combination of fragments of places that I have been and portraits of friends. My intention was to convey the feelings of awe and serenity experienced in these places.
